“It was like a switch”. That’s the quote given by the victim who allegedly was sexually assaulted by Sean Wedgwood back in August of last year in the Carmike Seth Child Cinema parking lot. Wedgwood, who is a Fort Riley soldier, was charged with felony level rape after a reported incident from August of last year.  He appeared in Riley County District Court on Wednesday for his jury trial. The trial began late Tuesday afternoon with opening statements, but the actual victim in the case was questioned on Wednesday. An injury accident worked by Riley County Police is listed in a separate report. #### Riley County Police arrested a Manhattan woman Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear and motion to revoke probation.   Jacquelyn Casteel, 38, was taken into custody while in the 600 block of Colorado Street at approximately 9:50 AM Tuesday. Original offenses associated with Casteel’s warrants were listed as theft by deception, driving while suspended/revoked, and other traffic related offenses. Bond was set at $7,000.

Emergency crews responded to an injury collision near the intersection of the 100 block of Bluemont Avenue and Frontage Road in Manhattan Tuesday afternoon at about 2:45 PM. Riley County Police found that a 1997 Ford CNT 4-door driven by Nitasha Ruff, 37, of Kansas City, Kansas was traveling east on Bluemont Avenue and preparing to turn north onto Frontage Road. During the process of turning this vehicle was struck by a 2012 Chevy Equinox SUV, driven by  Mackenzie Brown, 24, of Manhattan. The Wamego City Commission swore in a newly elected commissioner at Tuesday’s meeting. City Attorney Jake Pugh administered the oath of office to newly elected Commissioner Tom Beem. Beem filled the unexpired term of Commissioner Larry Fechter, and ran for the position in the last election. The Commission continued the commission reorganization by electing Cliff Baughman as Mayor, and Dr. Bill Ditto as Mayor Pro Tem. In other business, Architect Bruce McMillan and his team presented project specifications for the Columbian Theatre’s exterior maintenance, which included cost estimates. On Tuesday the Federal district court officially brought charges on one of the suspects in the alleged Fort Riley bombing plot. Alexander Blair was formally charged with conspiracy to assist John T. Booker jr. in an attack on Fort Riley. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office released information which gives more details on the allegations Blair faces in the upcoming trial. The document released late Tuesday states that in March of last year Blair gave Booker jr. money to store explosives to be used in the attack, and other charges related to the foiled attack.
