An armed robber who was sought by the Wamego Police Department has been caught. Brian Duzan, who police alerted the area about Wednesday morning, is in custody. Duzan was apprehended at about 1 p.m. in Wamego. The investigation is ongoing and after it is complete the case will be forwarded to the Pottawatomie County Attorney’s Office. The Wamego Police Department appreciates the assistance provided by the deputies from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

(8:20 p.m.) Update: The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to an injury accident on K18 shortly before 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. According to the KHP, a 2009 Suzuki Equator, driven by Isis Mueller (38) of Herrington was traveling eastbound on K18 when it left the roadway near milepost 185. The vehicle over corrected and went back into the south ditch where it rolled several times, eventually ejecting the driver. WICHITA — A new government report shows the Kansas winter wheat crop is faring mostly well so far this winter. Cattle and sheep are also mostly in good shape. The report released Monday by the National Agricultural Statistics Service comes after a month in which temperatures averaged six to eight degrees above normal across the eastern half of Kansas. Temperatures were closer to normal in the western half of the state in December. Winter wheat condition is rated as 8 percent excellent and 46 percent good. About 38 percent is rated fair, 7 percent as poor and 1 percent as very poor.…
TOPEKA — Two counties are asking the state to reimburse them for legal expenses caused by sexually violent predators. The fees stem from cases where the individuals challenge their confinement to the state’s Sexual Predator Treatment Program at Larned State Hospital. Counties where the patients’ case originated must pay the legal costs. But in the past, the Attorney General’s office reimbursed the counties through a state fund. However, lawmakers didn’t appropriate any money for the fund during the current fiscal year. A Manhattan man found guilty by jury of attempted first degree murder was granted a delay in his sentencing Tuesday morning in the Riley County District Courthouse. Samuel Dartez, who was scheduled to be sentenced for the stabbing of a 27-year-old woman multiple times on Nov. 13, 2014, near the intersection of Juliette and Yuma streets, was granted the delay by Judge David Stutzman after Dartez’s defense attorney said he is still awaiting results from a mental evaluation of Dartez.
