Two people received treatment for minor injuries following a car accident Monday afternoon. Ieasha Wallace-Garvin, 24, was driving west in a 2007 Chevy Cavalier on Fort Riley Boulevard when she rear-ended a 2012 Toyota Prius being driven by Benjamin Shubert, 31, at the intersection of Fort Riley and South Manhattan Avenue. Wallace-Garvin and Shubert received treatment for minor injuries at the scene, but declined transport to Via Christi Hospital. Wallace-Garvin was given a citation for inattentive driving. ### A Council Grove man was arrested yesterday evening for failure to appear. A Riley County farmer testified in Topeka earlier this week. Mary Mertz was born and raised in Chicago before she married a Kansan and relocated to Riley County. More than 20 years later, Mertz is hard at work in the dirt and advocates for agriculture with Kansas Farm Bureau. Mertz spends her time producing crops and informing the general public on where exactly their food comes from. Pottawatomie County Commissioners have signed a contract with Bayer Construction for improvements at the Highway 24/Excel Road intersection and other work on Excel Road. A starting date of March 28th is planned. The project will take approximately 210 days to complete. Commission Chair, Dee McKee encourages folks to plan ahead as traffic will be impacted by construction. The Pottawatomie County Commission is working on ways to improve water drainage in the County. McKee says the Commission decided Monday to fund a study that covers all the drainage from the two creeks that run through Blue Township. The study will take several months…

Vacant space in a county-owned building could be used to aid Pawnee Mental Health Services. Robbin Cole, Pawnee’s executive director, pitched the idea to Riley County commissioners Monday morning. Cole said vacant space in the lower level of the Riley County Family and Child Resource Center at 2101 Claflin Rd. could be used to either relocate the group’s child services office or create a new crisis response center. “Usually I come before you about four times a year-ish,” Cole told commissioners. “But it seems like lately it’s been a little more often than that.” Cole said she recently toured the…
WICHITA — Wichita police are investigating a report that two college students were attacked by a man shouting racial epithets and the name of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Wichita State University student body vice president Khondoker Usama, who is Muslim, said he and a Hispanic friend witnessed a white man calling a black customer a racial epithet at a convenience store before the man turned on him and his friend Saturday. Usama said he was pushed, and that his friend was punched and kicked. Usama said the man then rode away on his motorcycle, after circling them and shouting Trump’s name.…
Another Manhattan man has been sentenced to nearly five years with the Kansas Department of Corrections in connection with a series of robberies in the central portion of Manhattan in September of last year. Sean Johnson was sentenced to 59 months for aggravated robbery Monday in Riley County District Court, the same as Jonathon Elliott, 20, was sentenced this past Friday. As KMAN reported Friday, Elliott’s defense attorney had made a motion for departure and hoped for probation, but Judge David Stutzman told him his mistakes must be answered to. A Wamego man was arrested at the Riley County Police Department shortly before 5 on Friday evening. Brian Lee Havens, 36, was arrested for failure to appear. His bond was set at $10,000. A Junction City man was arrested Friday afternoon at the Riley County Police Department. 42-year old Kenneth Fleury Jr. was arrested for a probation violation at approximately 12:28 p.m. He was released on a $5,000 bond.
