CLEVELAND (AP)– Danny Salazar overcame a scary moment and a hot ballclub to remain unbeaten and help the Cleveland Indians snap a four-game losing streak. Salazar, who hit Alcides Escobar in the head with a pitch in the fifth inning, improved to 3-0 since being called up from the minors while Jason Kipnis homered and drove in four runs to lead the Indians past the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Wednesday night. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas House Speaker Ray Merrick says he’s not planning to have his chamber debate a bill aimed at protecting college religious groups that want to limit their membership. Merrick said Wednesday that the House must concentrate on closing a budget shortfall and drafting a plan to raise new revenues. The Stilwell Republican’s comments came hours after the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups said during a news conference that the bill would force state colleges to financially support discrimination. A Wichita man was convicted and a Wichita woman sentenced in Pottawatomie County District Court earlier this week on methamphetamine-related charges. Joseph Swarts, 34, and Ashleigh Swarts, 30, were arrested last July at the Quality Inn along with several other individuals on drug-related counts. Joseph Swarts was convicted Tuesday after a two day jury trial, of felony possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. His sentencing is set for May 21st. Ashleigh Swarts, who entered a plea of no contest to distribution of meth last month, was sentenced Tuesday to an underlying sentence of 30 months with the Department of Corrections,…

As KMAN has previously reported, a couple of vehicle collisions occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Although no major injuries, several vehicles were involved. Junction City Police Chief, Tim Brown reported that a pick up struck a semi trailer on the 296 east bound exit ramp onto I-70. This accident did result in the exit being closed for some time. Brown said it appeared a few inattentive drivers attempted to look at the accident from the highway, which resulted in another accident.
