An Alta Vista man died in a two vehicle accident in near-by Morris County Sunday afternoon.  Robert Ziegenhirt, 66, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the accident on K-177, three-tenths of a mile south of F Avenue, reported a few minutes after four p.m. Sunday. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a 1999 Nissan Maxima driven by Julie Fay, 19, of Emporia was travelling southbound, with a 2002 Ford F-150 driven by Glenna Ziegenhirt, 61, of Alta Vista travelling northbound on K-177. The animals at Manhattan’s Sunset Zoo observed visitors more than they were being watched Saturday afternoon. There was plenty to look at. The zoo welcomed 7,848 visitors this Saturday through Sunday for “SPOOKtacular,”  its annual trick-or-treat event. This marks the largest attendance for the event since it began in the mid-1990s. Last year held the previous record with 5,500 guests. With the busy weekend, the zoo’s annual attendance hit over 81,000 guests for the year.
