A Junction City man was sentenced Monday to 30 years in federal prison for trafficking cocaine in Junction City and Manhattan, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a press release Monday afternoon. Albert Dwayne Banks, 33, of Junction, City, was convicted on counts that included conspiracy to distribute more than 280 grams of crack cocaine. Last month, Banks was sentenced to life. At Monday’s hearing, U.S. District Judge Daniel D. Crabtree corrected the sentence by reducing it to 30 years. He said he changed the sentence based on his consideration of aggravating factors in the sentence. Banks was convicted in June in…

Vehicle thefts were a problem in November for Riley County. Riley County Police Department Lt. Luke Breault told county commissioners Monday morning there was an upward trend last month. “We had about 40 vehicle burglaries that were reported, which was a number that we hadn’t seen in some time,” he said. “The good thing that went along with that, though, is that we were able to develop a group of suspects.” One of those suspects, 20-year-old Barrett Stokes, is one KMAN first reported Friday. “We publicly stated that we’re out looking for him and that he’s wanted and believed to…

Pottawatomie County Attorney Sherri Schuck has filed for re-election. County Clerk Nancy McCarter indicates the incumbent filed Monday for the position. Schuck has been with the Pottawatomie County Attorney’s office since 2002 and had worked with the Riley County Police Department prior to that. Schuck told KMAN Tuesday morning that her personal ties to the county compelled her to run again. She told KMAN Tuesday she’s running again because it’s the job she’s always wanted to do and because she has the experience the job calls for. Schuck adds recent and upcoming cases are too important for her to ignore.

WICHITA — Police have arrested two men in connection with a double homicide that occurred in Wichita last week. KAKE-TV reports that 24-year-old Brent Carter and 19-year-old Jamion Wimbley have been charged in the home shooting death of Betty “Ann” Holloman and a 24-year-old man last Tuesday. Carter has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm. Wimbley faces charges for two counts of first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. The men were booked into the Sedgwick County Jail Friday evening. Officers with the Riley County Police Department responded along with other emergency crews to a vehicle collision near the intersection of 4th Street and Fort Riley Boulevard on Friday at approximately 11:55 a.m. Officers investigating this collision found that a 2013 Chevy Camaro driven by Robert Penn, 40, of Manhattan, was traveling west on Fort Riley Boulevard when it struck a 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by Alice Walker, 77, of Dwight.
