The Mayor’s Spirit of the Holidays Parade enjoyed mild temperatures and a big crowd Friday night in Manhattan. The parade began down Poyntz Avenue, went through Aggieville and ended with remarks from Mayor Karen McCulloh at Triangle Park, where the Christmas tree there was lit. “This one of the fun things you get to do when you’re mayor, and I think this is the funnest,” McCulloh said after the tree lighting. The Manhattan High boys and girls basketball teams will play for tournament titles on Saturday night in the Hays Shootout. The MHS girls (2-0) had a strong second half performance to pull away from the Newton Lady Railers, winning 46-34. MHS led 6-5 after one quarter and the game was tied at 14 at the half. The Indians outscored the Lady Railers 20-4 in the third quarter which proved to be the biggest difference in the outcome. There are a few changes coming to access control points at Fort Riley in the coming days. Starting Saturday, (Dec. 5): – The 12th Street Gate is closed to privately owned vehicles on Saturdays. The commercial portion will remain open on Saturdays. The gate is closed to all traffic on Sundays. K-State — The Kansas State University Police Department is seeking help in locating vandals who overturned a grand piano in All Faiths Chapel on campus. A four-vehicle accident disrupted traffic at the intersection of Fort Riley Boulevard and Fourth Street just before noon on Friday. An officer with the Riley County Police Department said two people were transported to the hospital via ambulance and the seriousness of the injuries are not yet known. The Riley County Police Department has responded to multiple vehicle burglaries during the past week.  Detectives with the Riley County Police Department have identified a potential suspect who may be related to these crimes. The RCPD is looking for information on the whereabouts of Barrett Stokes, 20-years-old of Manhattan.  Stokes stands approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.  He has brown hair and hazel eyes. Stokes should also be considered potentially armed and dangerous. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Kody Nations, 22, of Ogden and Michael Cossey, 19, also of Ogden, on Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. while in the 2600 block of Farm Bureau Road. Nations was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.  Nations’ bond was set at $15,000 and he remains confined at the time of this report.
