Officers with the Riley County Police Department are investigating a report of rape in the city limits of Manhattan which occurred the evening of Oct. 9. Police found that a 19-year-old female was touched inappropriately by a male suspect who is approximately 24-years-old. Police continue to investigate this incident and at the time of this report no further information was available to release. A Manhattan man charged with aggravated sodomy now faces a November 23rd court appearance, following activity in Riley County District Court earlier this week. Jase Stanton, 29, who was originally set for arraignment Monday now is set for arraignment November 23rd. As earlier reported during a preliminary hearing, three men identified as Fort Riley soldiers testified regarding the June seventh incident, when they indicated they met Stanton at a Manhattan bar. The men indicated they went to his home where he had promised there would be women, but passed out after consuming part of a mixed drink made by Stanton.…

City of Manhattan Administration hit the ground running on Tuesday night, presenting their desire to form a steering committee to City Commissioners, during a work session. Director of Public Works, Robert Ott spoke to commissioners in what was largely a refresher course in issues of street maintenance, previously presented to the city commission in April. TOPEKA — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Topeka man charged after an explosion in his car severely injured his 4-year-old son. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Jacob Daniel Schell faces charges including aggravated battery of the child and criminal use of explosives stemming from the July 2014 incident. Court records show his son was injured when a sack containing explosives blew up in his lap. The child sustained serious injuries to his leg and severe burns to 40 percent of his body. DODGE CITY — A federal lawsuit that’s part of a push by advocacy groups claims Dodge City imprisons people who can’t afford to pay bond fees. The Hutchinson News reports the lawsuit was filed in federal court in Kansas City, Kan., by Washington-based Equal Justice Under Law on behalf of Lawrence J. Martinez. The lawsuit says Dodge City seeks to jail poor residents who “cannot pay an arbitrary amount of money.” Similar lawsuits were filed last week in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Missouri.
