KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A new report shows that Kansas consumers seeking health insurance on the federally-run online marketplace will pay about the same next year as they did in 2014. The Kansas Health Institute, a nonpartisan health policy and research organization, released a report Saturday as the second sign up period got underway. It showed that the average premium for plans offered in the marketplace changed very little an increase of just 0.1 percent from 2014 to 2015. Postal services and military affairs seemed to be the two major topics of discussion during Saturday morning’s town hall meeting.  U.S. Senator, Jerry Moran, of Manhattan, visited the Riley Centre in Riley for the town hall meeting. The event was set up in a question-and-answer format, which allowed many of the residents in attendance to share their concerns. Moran spoke about the importance of taking local issues to local government entities, instead of taking them straight to Washington D.C. A Manhattan man has been sentenced in Geary County District Court on two counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. Trevor Triffet was sentenced to 64 months with the Kansas Department of Corrections, but suspended to 36 months probation with sex offender treatment. Triffet entered a plea in late August in connection with the case. He was arrested in May, with the victim identified as a 12-year-old female. And Michael Hall, 47, was sentenced to the maximum Friday in Geary County District Court in a felony animal cruelty case. Judge Steven Hornbaker sentenced Hall to 12 months in the…

Nigel Johnson scored 18 points to lead six Kansas State players in double figures as the Wildcats rolled to a 98-68 season-opening victory over Southern Utah before an announced crowd of 12,405 Friday night at Bramlage Coliseum. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is urging the Kansas Supreme Court to not unnecessarily abandon the state’s ban on same-sex marriages until a final constitutional decision on the issue is made by the nation’s highest court. Schmidt contends in a court filing Friday that a federal judge’s order allowing gay couples to marry applies only to the court officials in the two Kansas counties involved in the federal lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The state also wants a decision that a Johnson County judge acted prematurely when he issued an order allowing gay marriages.…
