On Friday Kansas State University president Kirk Schulz looked back on the accomplishments of the year, and what lies ahead in the future for the institution. As previously reported by KMAN KSU enrollment numbers are up, and according to Schulz the show more diversity than previous years.  Over 2,000 international students are attending K-State.  Schulz says the diversity seen in the classrooms will help orient students to a diverse workplace in the future. The Kansas City Royals earned their first playoff berth since 1985 with a 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night…but there’s still a lot on the line as they wrap up the regular season on Sunday. The Royals trail the Detroit Tigers by one game in the AL Central Division.  After failing to take advantage of a Tigers loss Saturday night, Kansas City can still tie Detroit for the division title Sunday with a win over Chicago coupled with another Tigers loss to the Minnesota Twins. The University of Kansas has relieved Charlie Weis of his duties as head football coach, effective early Sunday morning.  The news was reported on KU’s official athletics website.  Defensive Coordinator Clint Bowen will take over on an interim basis.  Weis was in the third year of a five year contract. According to a statement released by Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger, he advised Weis of the decision and then met with the rest of the coaching staff.  “I appreciate what Coach Weis did with several facets of our football program,” said Zenger.   “But we have not made the on-the-field progress we…

CHICAGO (AP) — A day after the celebration, Hall of Famer George Brett was a little worn out but no less ecstatic. The Kansas City Royals clinched a playoff spot for the first time in 29 years, and their greatest player sees no reason why they can’t make a long postseason run. Wizard of Oz fans of all kinds turned out for the Oztoberfest celebration in downtown Wamego.  The event began with “Night at the Museum” on Friday evening, but a bulk of the activities were held on Saturday. A large portion of Lincoln Street was blocked off for the Saturday festivities, as well as a few conjoining side streets. The vintage car show featured several different vehicles, as well as the traveling memorial for the American Legion in Wamego.
