Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education opposed several requests due to budget constraints. At Monday’s meeting, the Soccer proposal that was presented at the last meeting was reviewed. After the board studied the proposal, President Richard Weixelman said he didn’t know how they could approve the request because of the cost of the district. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education recognized student’s achievements in sports, organizations and forensics. Golf Coach Michael Petermann introduced the Wamego High School State Golf participants that qualified for state and placed 3rd. The team consisted of Ryan Elder, 9th place, Parker Waters, 10th Place; Cooper Spears, Spencer Stewart, AJ Sramek, and Noah Hildreth. Petermann said this was one of the best seasons in golf, and the team is an excellent representation of Wamego on the golf course. Outstanding board members earned recognition recently. Wamego’s USD 320 Superintendent Denise O’Dea, presented plaques to outgoing board members for their years of service, during Monday night’s board of education meeting. Recipients included Mark Bettencourt who served four years, Richie Chrest who served 13 years and Richard Weixelman who served 32 years. Weixelman was honored for serving 20 of the 32 years in a leadership position, with 10 years as President and 10 years as Vice President. An attempt to stop a vehicle in Geary county for speeding led to a law enforcement chase Monday, with three Kansas City men ending up in the hospital. The Kansas Highway patrol reports the incident occurred Monday morning on eastbound I-70 at the Grandview Plaza exit. A 2000 Audi driven by Arturo Molina, 20, fled after an attempt to stop him, and reportedly drove recklessly through traffic, with the vehicle exiting the interstate at the Grandview Plaza exit but coming to a stop after striking an embankment.
