Saturday was full of events in the Aggieville/City Park area here in Manhattan.  The first activity was the “What Would Johnny Do?” event in the park. Manhattan Parks and Recreation staff members hosted the event to answer questions about the City Park Master Plan.  This plan was adopted in 2006, but will likely be updated in the coming years. The event concluded with a walking tour of the park. The 37th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration was held in the Aggieville area.  This event has historically always been held prior to the actual holiday, which is on Tuesday this year.…

The Rock Creek Mustangs have advanced to the Championship Game of the Class 4A Division II Boys State Basketball Tournament after defeating Wichita Trinity 86-71 Friday night in Semifinal action at Hartman Arena in Park City. The Mustangs will face Holcomb for the State title at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in a game that can be heard on our sister station Hot Country B 104.7. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has been working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to investigate an outbreak of listeriosis cases in five adult Kansas residents linked to ice cream consumed from Blue Bell Creameries. Listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Five people in Kansas have become ill as part of this outbreak and three deaths have been reported. Patients became ill with listeriosis after hospitalizations for unrelated…

SURPRISE, Ariz.(AP)– Edinson Volquez had a shaky start, but Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer to offset a two-run double by former teammate Billy Butler and the Kansas City Royals beat an Oakland Athletics split squad 8-4 Friday. Perez homered to left in the four-run first with Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales aboard. Lorenzo Cain doubled and scored on Hosmer’s single. A column of ash and smoke erupts from the Turrialba volcano in Turrialba, Costa Rica, Thursday, March 12, 2015. The volcano erupted three times Thursday and state observers recorded a smaller eruption Friday morning. Costa Rican officials have closed the country’s principle airport in the capital of San Jose after the eruption filled the sky with ash. The country’s public education ministry suspended classes Friday at 12 schools near the volcano.

Updated 1:45 p.m. Friday: A woman found dead in a Wamego apartment Thursday afterrnoon has been identified.  Traci Lawrence, 38, was found at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of 14th Street. A news release Friday afternoon says the preliminary results of the autopsy examination of Lawrence’s body indicates there was no foul play associated with her death. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks. Officers from the Wamego Police Department and Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office first responded to the report of a deceased person at the apartment complext.
