The Legislature sparred Tuesday over a measure that would create statewide standards for livestock producers trying to obtain permits. Geary County’s Delivering Change: Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program has expanded to Riley County. “We’re excited to partner with Geary Community Hospital and Geary County and Riley County,” said John Broberg, Senior Administrator for Mercy Regional Health Center. A jury trial was held in Riley County District Court in August for Christopher Bates. He was later found guilty of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14, but was found not guilty of an earlier charge. This all stems from sexual assaults involving two children in the summer of 2013. Sentencing for Bates was finally held on Tuesday afternoon, where he changed his plea on two of the counts. A preliminary hearing has been set for a Manhattan man facing 24 different charges, including vehicle theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jeremy Spaur appeared in Riley County Court on Tuesday afternoon for a status hearing. His case was set for a two hour preliminary hearing, to be held on May 15th at 10 a.m. in Judge William Malcolm’s courtroom. Spaur made a request for the court to consider bond reduction. An affidavit released a few weeks ago described details regarding an alleged road rage incident, which resulted in a shooting. As KMAN previously reported, Tierre Wall of Fort Riley faces a voluntary manslaughter charge after at least one witness report indicates he fired a gun three times-with the second shot hitting a man named Casey Lindley in the head. Wall appeared in Riley County District Court for a status hearing Tuesday afternoon, via web cam. Considering his attorney, Larry McRell, had not yet received discovery, the case was set for another status hearing which will be held on April 14th at 1 p.m.
