An affidavit disclosed Tuesday in the John Thomas case that KMAN has been reporting on for a couple of weeks has a few additional details regarding the sexual exploitation case. Thomas of Leonardville was arrested in Arizona earlier this month and brought back to Riley County the end of last week. The affidavit recounts Riley County Police interviews with Jayme and John Thomas on February 20th, with an I-Pad seized. A forensic download was conducted. The Kansas State University Police Department is looking for a suspect in an attempted robbery that occurred around noon Monday in the D-1 parking lot west of West Stadium. The male victim reported an unknown Hispanic male, 5-feet-8-inches tall with brown hair in his late 20s, wearing a gray shirt and khakis approached the victim and demanded his property. The victim was battered by the suspect and the suspect fled the area. The victim received minor injuries and refused medical attention. The 2015 County Health Rankings and Roadmaps document was recently released, and Riley County was selected as #1, as the healthiest county in Kansas. Since 2010, the county has ranked #1 and #2 for quality of life. On health factors, the county has averaged 6.5, but ranked 12th in 2014 and 11th in 2015. It was somewhat of a group gripe session at the intergovernmental luncheon held in Manhattan Monday, with most area groups at the meeting having some criticism of state legislation coming out of Topeka. Manhattan’s Assistant City Manager Kiel Mangus was just one of those voicing concerns. He talked about Senate Bill 42, dealing with information on lobbyists. Finding ways to fund regional bridges continues to be a topic of conversation for the Pottawatomie County Commissioners, but for now, they’re finding ways to make do.
