Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 School board members took a moment during Wednesday night’s board meeting to consider the recognition of a Manhattan High School football coach who previously left such a large legacy, that current principal Greg Hoyt asked to honor the former coach by adding his name to the stadium. The coach mentored Hoyt and others through their high school athletic careers. He also led the Indians to four State Championship game appearances in the 1980’s, winning the title in 1988 with a victory over Lawrence High. Hoyt says a big part of his legacy came from the stories Coach Lew Lane told to his players, motivating them on and off the field. After a presentation by Principal Hoyt, Manhattan/Ogden school board members moved to approve the renaming of the field at Bishop Stadium in Lane’s honor The facility will now be known as Lew Lane Field at Bishop Stadium.
We’ve been hearing a state furlough may possibly threaten government employees. But according to Manhattan/ Ogden USD 383 Superintendent Bob Shannon there is one piece of good news for the local school district as the legislature continues its overtime session, and that is the current concerns do not apply to unified school districts. Superintendent Shannon reassured USD 383 school board members of a safety net, with block grants budgeted for and appropriated. However Shannon mentioned details are subject to change.
Also during the meeting, Manhattan/Ogden School board members voted to approve high school student parking pass price increases after a relatively long debate, meaning students will now have to pay $75 instead of last year’s $50.
