HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Correctional officers were searching for a minimum security inmate who was reported missing from his work site over the weekend. The Hutchinson News reports 43-year-old Christopher Ward was discovered missing around 5:30 p.m. Saturday from his work site at Cal-Maine Industries. The Hutchinson Correctional Facility inmate was incarcerated for convictions for burglary, theft, aggravated burglary, fleeing and eluding, and aggravated escape from custody. The convictions were in Butler and Sedgwick counties, and Ward was due to be released in just over two years. Ward is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 181 pounds.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Student government leaders at the University of Kansas say they are disappointed that the university is shifting some prized seats in Allen Fieldhouse from students to donors after the Student Senate eliminated a $25 student fee. The Lawrence Journal-World reports the university’s athletics department is moving students from seats behind the bench and near the tunnel where Kansas basketball players take the floor and letting donors have them. The Texas Longhorns advanced to the 2014 College World Series in Omaha after winning the first two games in their Super Regional against Houston.  Texas defeated the Cougars 4-2 in the opening game Friday night, and completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. The news was not good for Oklahoma State; after falling to UC-Irvine 8-4 in the opening game, the Cowboys’ season ended in a 1-0 defeat to the Anteaters Saturday. By Chris Kutz, K-State Athletics Communications Junior Austin Fisher was the lone K-State Wildcat taken on the final day of the 2014 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft as the shortstop was selected in the 13th round (398th overall) by the Cleveland Indians. Fisher became the third Wildcat overall to be taken in this year’s MLB Draft, joining senior outfielder Ross Kivett (6th round, Detroit Tigers) and redshirt junior outfielder Mitch Meyer (7th round, Milwaukee Brewers). Governor Sam Brownback welcomed the hundreds of motorcyclists participating at the third annual Governor’s Freedom Rally Saturday, held in Junction City, with a tour through Fort Riley. Two preliminary hearings that had been set for this past week in Geary County District Court have been continued. Christopher and Tammerisk Lyman of Junction City, who were scheduled for June fourth, will now have a preliminary hearing September third. Christopher Lyman’s charges include first degree murder and child abuse. Tammerisk Lyman is charged with aggravated child endangerment. The two were arrested last September after an eight-month-old child was brought into the emergency room at Geary Community Hospital, then transported by helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. The Paws on Poyntz Committee has had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel the 13th Annual Weenie Dog Races and Paws on Poyntz due to expected bad weather in the morning hours of Saturday, June 7th. Part of the organizers decision is due to the fact that chalk paint is used to mark out the race track and that cannot be done in either the rain or on wet pavement.
