This past school year, Manhattan Christian College, in partnership with KU medical center, created a program to train preachers who work with medical patients. Manhattan Christian College President Kevin Ingram says students in the program help patients and families in difficult situations. “From their first weekend they weren’t residents, they weren’t volunteers, their name badge said chaplain. If there was a shooting in the night and the family came into the E.R. and they needed a chaplain there to help navigate all of that, it was our student,” Ingram said. Updated Friday 5:30 a.m.   About 400 Riley County Westar Energy customers were without power for several hours Thursday, due to the morning storm which moved through the area, downing trees into power lines. A Westar spokesman indicated the number remained right around 400 since calls began coming in at about 7:30 a.m. through much of Thursday afternoon.    A reminder if you’re without power to contact Westar by logging in to their website at westarenergy.com or by calling 1-800 LIGHT-KS  or 1-800-544-4857. A 31-year-old Manhattan man was arrested by Riley county Police Wednesday afternoon on a warrant for motion to revoke probation. Steven Breese’s warrant from Shawnee County  had “no bond” attached to it. Breese was confined at the Riley County Jail at the time of this report after being arrested near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. and Walters Drive. And RCPD filed a report for fleeing or attempting to elude an officer after a subject with a bench warrant fled from a traffic stop. The subject is known to police and an investigation continues. Kiel Mangus has been named Assistant City Manager for the City of Manhattan effective Monday, July 14. Ron R. Fehr, City Manager, announced the appointment Thursday. The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2014 inductees. The class will consist of ten members, including three with K-State ties. Riley native and former K-State and Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds will be inducted.  Dodds was a standout in track and field as a Wildcat athlete and also spent 13 years as the program’s head coach before taking over as AD.
