On January 25, 2025, at approximately 2:37 PM, officers filed a report in Manhattan regarding a series of serious criminal offenses. The report included charges of domestic battery, criminal threat, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated impersonation of a law enforcement officer. Jeremy Barker, 45, of Manhattan, was arrested just minutes later at around 2:44 PM. He was taken into custody on probable cause for aggravated false impersonation, domestic battery, aggravated kidnapping, and criminal threat. Officers filed a report of criminal discharge of a firearm on January 24, 2025, at approximately 11:58 PM in the 1300 block of Laramie Street. A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in Kiowa County ended in a fatal crash on January 25, 2025. The incident began at 9:03 PM when Kansas Highway Patrol troopers located a stolen 2009 Ford Focus traveling eastbound on US Highway 54. The vehicle was being sought in connection with a homicide investigation in Anderson County. As troopers prepared to initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the Ford, later identified as Jerry Wayne Thompson, pulled over but fled after verbal contact was made. The 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley will deploy approximately 200 Soldiers to the southern border as part of a mission to protect and defend the territorial integrity of the United States. The deployment, directed by the President, will support Customs and Border Protection’s efforts at the border. On January 23, 2024, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Chapman Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2500 Block of Nicholson Road in Chapman. The operation was part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. During the search, authorities discovered THC edible products, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and firearms. Two roundabouts are going in on Tuttle Creek Boulevard north of town, with a stretch of the road set to shut down for most of the year starting in April. Kansas Department of Transportation officials on Thursday said work is underway on a roundabout at the junction between Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Kansas Highway 13, which goes over the dam.
