Rock Creek’s Ryan Schneider became another local product to sign their letter of intent to play collegiate athletics. After K-State grabbed an early 2-0 lead, Soloman Williams hit a solo homer in the top of the 6th as Cal State Bakersfield went on to a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats on Monday night at Tointon Family Stadium. K-State would get an RBI single from Tanner DeVinny in the first and a sac fly by Austin Fisher in the 5th, but only managed two hits beyond that point. CLEVELAND (AP) Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley hit two-run homers, powering the Cleveland Indians over the Kansas City Royals 4-3 Monday night. Kipnis connected in the sixth inning off Jeremy Guthrie, overcoming a 3-2 deficit. Brantley provided Cleveland a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Alex Gordon and Omar Infante each had two of the Royals’ six hits. Infante gave Kansas City a 3-2 lead in the 5th with an RBI single. Game 2 of the four game series between the Royals and Indians is at 6:05pm on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

As KMAN has previously reported, Governor Sam Brownback signed HB 2506 Monday, which addresses school funding. Before signing the legislation, Manhattan Ogden USD 383 school board member, Aaron Estabrook presented the governor with nearly 3,000 signatures of Kansans that asked him to not sign the bill, in order to keep due process rights for teachers. The Chiefs are speaking with representatives of quarterback Alex Smith about an extension that would keep him in Kansas City beyond next season. Smith said this afternoon that his agent has been talking with the team about a new contract. Smith is due to make $7.5 million in the final year of a contract signed in 2012, when he was still with the San Francisco 49ers.
