Cold, wet temperatures did not seem to impact the Wreaths Across America ceremony held Saturday at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery off of Wildcat Creek Road. The outdoor pavilion was packed, and several members of the public had to stand outside. Cemetery Manager, Keith Shurtleff provided remarks during the event. Shurtleff thanked all of the family members of fallen soldiers who donated wreaths. He said they managed to have enough to put one on every gravestone this year. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A 56-year-old Wichita man who had four previous drunken driving arrests before a crash that killed a passenger earlier this year has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison. KWCH-TV reports Melvin Day was driving under the influence and with a suspended license when he crashed into a tree on March 5. Sedgwick County prosecutors say Day’s blood alcohol was nearly 3 1/2 times the legal limit at the time of the crash, which killed 55-year-old Kevin Donn. Day pleaded guilty in October to an involuntary manslaughter charge. He was sentenced Friday to 172 months…

The Manhattan High girls are 2-0 after rolling to a 72-22 win at Topeka West on Friday. The Indians came out sharp and built a 22-4 lead after the first quarter that saw them shoot over 60 percent from the floor. Pesky defense helped force 17 first half turnovers, and the lead was 43-7 at the half. For the game Manhattan forced 25 turnovers and shot 54 percent from the floor to get the win. An RV sits underwater from the flooded Russian River Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in Guerneville, Calif. While the sun rose Friday in a dry San Francisco sky, the storm’s affects lingered in Northern California. In Sonoma County, the Russian River was approaching flood stage and was expected to crest several feet above it by early afternoon.
