(Please see news release regarding armed robbery in other web story) A Manhattan man  faces several charges after reportedly resisting his arrest by Riley County Police Wednesday. Christopher Williams, 42, was taken into custody after  police responded to the 1000 block of Humboldt at approximately 9:30 Wednesday morning.     Williams originally faced a probation violation warrant from out of jurisdiction  with a small  bond of $930.18 dollars.. Upon serving this warrant officers were met with resistance which led to Williams being arrested for obstructing the legal process and battery of a law enforcement officer. No significant injuries were reported.   Bond was set at $13,930.18.

Update at Noon Thursday: A gas leak in the 3200 block of Kimball Avenue caused some traffic issues Thursday morning. Riley County Police P-I-O Mat Droge indicates a construction crew was involved.  Manhattan Public Works Director Rob Ott tells KMAN it was not a city project but involved a drilling Rig working near Dara’s Gas Station, doing some borings. The Manhattan Fire Department stood by for Kansas Gas Service, with Kimball partially shut down.   An Iris Alert went out shortly before 9:30 regarding the leak. HOUSTON (AP) Mike Moustakas homered in the 11th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 win over the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. Moustakas has been off to a tough start this season and was hitting .098 before his solo shot to the seats in right field off Jerome Williams to lead off the 11th. Three people were arrested by Junction City Police Wednesday at a local hotel on drug-related charges.   Currin Ayer, 26, of Manhattan, Donavan Johnson, 30, of Junction City, and Megan Patton, 31, also of Junction City were taken into custody at the Knights Inn at 1024 South Washington. Ayer and Johnson face charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute within one-thousand feet of a school and possession of drug parapheranlia. Patton’s charges are possession-related only.   Ayer and Johnson were arrested at 10:44 a.m. and Patton was arrested shortly before 2:30 in the afternoon Wednesday.

The City of Manhattan facilitated an open house discussion on flood plain safety Wednesday evening at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters. The discussion centered around a large pilot project recently initiated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, to help communities in the Big Blue River flood plain stay safe and dry. “The thrust of this pilot project is to look at specifically the risk of flooding, less so of what the lines in the flood maps will say or what flood insurance will cost. Updated 5a.m. Thursday: On April 16, 2014 at 10:06 PM, the Riley County Police Department received a report of an armed robbery which had occurred at Dollar General located at 2321 Tuttle Creek Blvd., Manhattan, Kansas. Information at this point is preliminary; however employees of the store described the suspect as: A black male, just under 6 feet tall, who was wearing a red sweatshirt and a ball cap with the American Flag spread across the bill.  The suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. “They won’t say it, but there is a large percentage of legislators who are opposed to public schools in general.  They’d much rather see it privatized.” This statement was made by Board member, Dave Colburn during Wednesday evening’s Manhattan Ogden USD 383 School Board, as the board discussed the due process bill.
