Johnson Sr. of Manhattan. ### As KMAN announced early Tuesday, one person was injured in a rollover accident in Geary county Monday evening. John D. Thompson of Manhattan was westbound on I-70 at milemarker 301 shortly before 6:30 p.m. when he lost control of the 1999 “S”Series Mercedes he was driving. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education reviewed the High School’s proposed grading policy. At Monday’s meeting, Principal Tim Winter went over a revised grading policy, after the current policy raised some public concerns. According to Winter, the Honor Roll standards have been amended because currently about 90 percent of the student body is listed on the Honor Roll. The regular Honor Roll will require a 3 point 7 (3.7) to 3 point 99 (3.99) GPA. The High Honor Roll will require a 4 point 0 (4.0) or higher GPA, because of the weighted grading of the Advanced Placement (AP) classes.…
K-State women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie has announced the hiring of another member of his former staff at TCU. Ebony Gilliam was an assistant for the Horned Frogs under Mittie for the past two seasons, and also spent another two years as the director of operations. Gilliam joins associate head coach Brian Osterman at K-State. The former Ebony Shaw ended her TCU playing career from 2000-2004 as the sixth leading scorer in school history, and also coached high school basketball for four years in the Fort Worth area before returning to her alma mater. Five-time state champion wrestling coach Dennis Charbonneau will take a step away from the mat as he was named athletic director and assistant principal at Wamego High School during Monday night’s USD 320 school board meeting. Charbonneau has spent 25 years as a chemistry and physics instructor, and was a head wrestling coach for 19 years, from 1996-2009 at Clay Center and the last five seasons at Emporia. He’s been named Kansas wrestling coach of the year eight times.
A vehicle slammed into a downtown business early Tuesday morning. The business struck is identified in the Riley County Police incident report as Linde Beauty Supply, located at 121 South Fourth Street. While not known if this is connected, an arrest is also reported in that same location at the same approximate time of just before two a.m. Scott Tuck, 23, of Junction City was taken into custody at 121 South Fourth at 1:59 a.m. on a DUI charge. His bond was set at $750.

Updated 6 a.m Tuesday.: A fire at 702 South Juliette Avenue brought Manhattan firefighters out Monday evening. At 6:20 p.m. the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a one story residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing. Crews entered the structure and extinguished the flames, while other firefighters prevented the apartment building next door from catching fire. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within 30 minutes.
