The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin the winter drawdown of Tuttle Creek Lake starting Tuesday, December 9. Operations Manager with Tuttle Creek Lake for the Corps of Engineers, Brian McNulty, indicates anticipated releases will be increased to 1600 cubic feet per second range and at that release, assuming no appreciable precipitation, the lake will drop 3 feet to elevation 1,075 by December 22. Once at that level, releases will be adjusted down in order to meet minimum downstream flow targets at Topeka and/or DeSoto on the Kansas River. Kansas State will make its fifth consecutive trip to a bowl game on Friday, January 2 when they will play in the Valero Alamo Bowl against UCLA from the Pac 12 Conference. K-State finished 9-3 in the regular season and with a #11 ranking in the final College Football Playoff poll. A 17-year old Riley boy was killed and another injured in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday near Keats. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro driven by 17-year old Wyatt Howe of Riley was westbound on Anderson Avenue shortly after 4:30 Sunday morning when for an unknown reason he lost control of the vehicle which went into the north ditch and struck a tree before coming to rest against the tree.
