An April 10th arraignment has been set for a Fort Riley soldier who faces charges of sexual exploitation of a child, rape, and aggravated sodomy. James Henning’s preliminary hearing was held in Geary County Court Wednesday, which included videotapes and photographs. Henning was bound over on the 11 felonies following the preliminary. Henning was taken into custody in late November after what was described by law enforcement as a month long investigation in connection with the distribution of child pornography. Formed in 1996, the Eureka Valley Drainage District was put into place in the hopes that the residents in the area would be able to complete projects to address the drainage issues some businesses were facing. This district was discussed during Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting, as County Counselor, Clancy Holeman requested the district be terminated. (AP) A legislative committee’s proposed budget for the Kansas higher education system would shift money away from Kansas State University and the main University of Kansas campus. The Senate Ways and Means Committee on Thursday approved a higher education budget of $2.7 billion both for the fiscal year beginning July 1st and the following fiscal year. The panel endorsed a subcommittee’s proposal to trim operating funds for the main University of Kansas campus in Lawrence by $4.6 million each year. The Manhattan high boys basketball teams’ dream season came to a bitter close on Wednesday night as the 7th seeded Junior Blues of Washburn Rural upset the 2nd seeded Indians 59-58 in a class 6A Sub State Semi Final. Manhattan led 12-5 after the first quarter but found themselves trailing by two at the half 27-25. Manhattan was much better in the third quarter taking a 40-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
