Representatives from Westar Energy made an appearance at the Pottawatomie County Commission meeting on Monday, Jan. 12 to answer questions regarding the potential rerouting of a high-power transmission line. Project Manager Dave Peck and Director of Transmission and Sub-Station Construction Paul Wallen presented information about the line-routing process to the commissioners, including an overview of the potential directions it could take. Ben Wilson (pictured on the left) officially took his seat as Riley County’s 1st district commissioner after being sworn in Monday morning by County Clerk Rich Vargo. Riley County District Court Chief Judge Meryl Wilson (first picture), Judge David Stutzman (second picture) and Judge John Bosch (last picture) all were sworn in as well. Riley County Police arrested two Kansas City women on felony theft and conspiracy to commit theft charges. Melisha Russell, 23, and Gail Martin, 38 were taken into custody Saturday at approximately 4:00 PM. Both subjects were arrested while at the Riley County Police Department after an investigation into theft from a Manhattan retail establishment in December 2014. Bond for Martin is eight-thousand dollars and Russell’s was set at $4,500. Manhattan Mayor Wynn Butler has been on the Manhattan City Commission for four years–but he still wants the see the City’s “debt bubble smashed.” That’s why Butler is running for re-election to the commission, having dropped off paperwork at the City Clerk’s office this past Friday. Two Salina residents were injured in a Sunday night accident in Geary County.  Marc Banda,30, was taken to Geary Community Hospital, with Delia Pham, 49, taken to Mercy Regional Health Center following the accident on I-70, just east of highway 77. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a1999 Mitsubishi was parked in the median, when a 2006 Pontiac G-6 driven by Jordan Achilles of Inman struck it. Achilles reportedly lost control on the ice. Banda and Pham are listed as pedestrians in the accident, reported at 8:20 Sunday night.

Updated 1/13/15: Few details are being released regarding an agreement early this week between Cox Communications and Gray TV, which includes WIBW TV or Channel 13 in Topeka. For five days Cox Communications viewers in Manhattan were not able to view WIBW programming. WIBW General Manager Jim Ogle would only officially tell KMAN “We’re happy to be on and thanks to all our viewers.” Ogle did confirm several calls and questions the past six days. A local representative from Cox Communications had not yet returned a call from KMAN. The Cox website only says an agreement was reached for retransmission…
