It’s a sad state of affairs.” This was a statement made by Manhattan Ogden USD 383 school board member, Darell Edie during a special school board meeting Wednesday evening. His comments were in reference to the local option budget authority mail ballot election decision. The item was approved last week on first reading. In this Thursday, March 5, 2015 photo, the lone pine tree that miraculously survived the deadly 2011 tsunami among 70,000 trees along the coastline, stands in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan. The tree, which was badly damaged from seawater after surviving the tsunami, was cut down in 2012 and treated for decay after which it was preserved using artificial materials. It was later placed back where it was found to stand as a symbol of hope and survival.
Three people were indicted Wednesday on federal charges of kidnapping and killing a Junction City woman, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. Grissom said his office is prosecuting the case jointly with the Geary County Attorney in federal court. The body of Amanda Clemons, 24, of Junction City, was found in February 2014 in Geary County, Kan. Charged with one count of kidnapping resulting in death are: Larry L. Anderson, 26, who is being held in the Geary County Jail. Marryssa M. Middleton, 23, who is being held in the Geary County Jail. …
During the 2015 celebration of “Fake Patty’s Day” the Riley County Police Department with assistance from the Junction City Police Department, Emporia Police Department, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a significant number of calls for service generated by both police officers and community members. KMAN has received additional details about the shooting incident that occurred during the early morning hours of Tuesday in Ogden, and the individual has died from his injuries. Riley County Police officers were dispatched to an emergent call for service regarding a shooting with injury. This incident was ultimately determined to have taken place on Skyway Drive near the intersection of East Riley Avenue just outside of Ogden.
