MILWAUKEE (AP) Cameron Ridley’s buzzer-beating layup lifted Texas to an 87-85 victory over Arizona State in the second of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night. Jonathan Holmes missed badly on a long 3-pointer for the seventh-seeded Longhorns in the final seconds, but Ridley emerged from the scrum with the ball and banked it in as time expired over the outstretched fingers of an ASU defender. Hayes Drive has reopened near McCall, following a two vehicle accident Friday morning. A Riley County Police dispatcher indicates one minor injury was involved in the accident. Further details are not yet available.

Senate Bill 298 was passed through the Senate on Wednesday. The proposed legislation would eliminate the mortgage registration fee. Riley County Commissioners, as well as Register of Deeds, Debbie Regester, have strongly been opposing the bill. Regester mentioned the confusion the bill could cause if it is passed, during Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting. She said she will expect that her department will have to reject more documents then they will actually record if the bill goes through. U-S Senator Jerry Moran of Manhattan is a Rotarian–and he was proud to address what is now his hometown group at lunch Thursday. Moran talked about the importance of getting construction going on the National Bio and Agri-Defense Facility. The Senator also addressed other issues of importance to his fairly new hometown, including Fort Riley, funding for the Manhattan Regional Airport renovation, and floodplain concerns.
