An 18-year-old originally charged with aggravated battery with a firearm has entered a plea–but to two other charges in connection with the case. The case involving Daeshawn Bryant received a lot of attention following the May shooting on Manhattan’s north side, in which Dareen Starks,23, of Manhattan required treatment for several days following. Starks mother had attended several Riley County Law Board meetings complaining about the handling of the shooting. A 29-year-old Manhattan woman faces a $6,000 bond following her arrest on a failure to appear warrant Tuesday evening. Caitlen Donaldson was taken into custody by Riley County Police shortly before seven p.m. while in the 400 block of North Juliette Avenue. Donaldson’s original offense is listed as possession of certain depressants.

(AP) A federal judge will hear arguments next month on whether to block aircraft parts maker Spirit AeroSystems from selling off its fabrication operations or laying off workers pending arbitration. U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree on Tuesday set an Oct. 8 hearing in Topeka over the lawsuit filed by the Machinists union against the Wichita company. The union contends the potential outsourcing would violate its labor contract and cost 1,400 jobs. A new bridge in southeast Pottawatomie County will open, after the project was completed sooner than expected. Wednesday, the new U.S. 24 bridge, located over the Deep Creek drainage area near Belvue, will open to unrestricted traffic. The new bridge structure has been completed and crews will shift traffic from the shoofly detour, back on to the newly completed bridge this afternoon.
