CLEARWATER, Kan. (AP) Power has been restored to parts of three south-central Kansas counties where the lights went out when a power line fell on a row of hay bales, causing a brief fire. More than 5,000 people were without power Sunday in Harper, Kingman and Sumner counties. KWCH-TV reports officials with Wheatland Electric said about 4 a.m. Monday that all power had been restored. A spokesman for Wheatland Electric says the line belongs to Westar Energy but supplies power to the company for the three counties. A 55-game schedule was released on Monday for the defending Big 12 champion K-State baseball team, who reached the first Super Regional in program history last season.  The Cats’ season kicks off on February 14th with a trip to California, and the 28-game home schedule at Tointon Family Stadium starts two weeks later.   Information finally was released the end of last week on activity in Manhattan on Park Grove Drive KMAN had been investigating since Thursday morning. Neighbors in that area had contacted KMAN regarding activity that appeared to involve Kansas or Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. Riley county Police told KMAN Thursday they had no information or involvement in the matter. But as KMAN announced Friday morning,  Weiqiang Zhang, 47, of Manhattan who lives in the 11 hundred block of East Park Grove is being charged with conspiracy to steal trade secrets. Further details released after Friday’s announcement indicate alleged attempt to steal rice seed samples from a Junction…

A Burdick man was killed in a rollover accident late Saturday night. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 48-year old Marlin Miser was driving a 1993 Dodge Pickup eastbound on U.S. Highway 56 about four miles east of Herrington shortly before 11:30 Saturday night when the vehicle strayed into oncoming traffic. Miser then over-corrected the vehicle and lost control entering the south ditch and rolled before coming to rest in the roadway facing north. Miser was pronounced dead at the scene. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A Florida-based developer is exploring the possibility of building a wind farm in Douglas County. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that NextEra Energy Resources is looking for sites to place meteorological towers to measure the wind in the area. Company spokesman Steve Stengel says the measurements will determine if a Douglas County project would be economically feasible. He says the company also wants to find out if there are enough landowners willing to sell easements on their land for wind turbines to make a project possible. NextEra currently has wind energy developments in more sparsely populated western Kansas.…
