It’s unusual for Junction City Firefighters to have four fires in two days–but that’s been the case this week, with the Kansas Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross providing assistance to eight people impacted by those fires.   Junction City Fire Chief Kevin Royse indicates all available firefighters have been at work on the blazes, which began early Tuesday morning. Fortunately no injuries were reported.   Damage ranged from $150,000 to $1,000. The Fourth Annual RCPD vs. MFD BBQ Competition will take place this Saturday during the Relay for Life event held in the Manhattan City Park. Each year the two emergency services agencies pit members against each other in pursuit of perfectly smoked and barbequed pulled pork, chicken, and ribs. RCPD has taken home the trophy for the past three years and hopes to make it a fourth this year. K-State picked up it’s seventh commitment for the 2015 football recruiting class yesterday in the form of Carl Junction, Missouri linebacker Chase Johnston. Johnston tweeted his pledge yesterday night: Johnston doesn’t have a star rating yet on rivals.com, but is listed at 6-4 and 220 pounds with a 4.57 40-yard dash time. He is the first known commitment for K-State since Bishop Carrol’s Denzel Goolsby tweeted his commitment two weeks ago.

B.J. Finney, Cody Whitehair and Ryan Mueller are the latest Wildcats to be added to award watch lists in a week that’s been full of honors for K-State. Finney and Whitehair are each on the Outland Trophy watch list, given to the nation’s best interior defensive lineman. Mueller is a candidate for the most outstanding defensive player of the year in college football after being named to the Bronko Nagurski Award watch list. While the whole world awaits on LeBron James’ decision, K-State sophomore guard Marcus Foster was within earshot of the four time MVP on Wednesday. Foster took part in day one of the LeBron James skills academy Wednesday in Las Vegas along with 29 other college players. He measured in at 6’2 and a half and 213 pounds with a 6’5 wingspan at the camp according to a roster from the event. The LeBron skills academy runs through Saturday in Las Vegas.   A citizen reported seeing a motor home parked in Linear Park near the Blue River Bridge in Manhattan, around 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.  After investigation, the motor home was found to have been stolen.   The citizen who reported on the motor home had watched a news cast about a similar stolen motor home from Nebraska that had been involved in thefts from Marysville.  The person alerted the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, and deputies responded to Linear Park.   When the deputy confirmed the motorhome was reported as stolen, he took one male into custody.  Upon further investigation, three other…

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Lawrence police say they don’t suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found along Kansas 10 in Douglas County. A commuter noticed the body about 6 a.m. Wednesday near an industrial area called Venture Park. The man was later identified as 37-year-old Nathan Thurman. Police said Thurman had recently been staying at the nearby Lawrence Community Shelter, which serves the homeless and people at risk of losing their homes.
