KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) Police have released the names of an elderly couple found dead in the northeast Kansas home over the weekend. Officers were called to the home in Kansas City, Kansas, on Sunday and found the man and woman dead in a car inside their garage. They were identified Monday as Gerald Lorfing (88) and his Mary Lorfing (86). Authorities have not released any details on how the couple died. The police department’s Major Case Squad asked to hear from anyone with information about the deaths.
“In 24 years, this is the most horrific case I’ve been involved in, in Riley County”, commented Prosecuting State Attorney Barry Wilkerson, during a re-sentencing case Tuesday morning. The re-sentence was held in Riley County Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson’s courtroom for former Fort Riley soldier, Tony Tremayne Lewis. Lewis is charged with nine different offenses stemming from a few incidents that occurred in the spring of 2009. The charges include- burglary, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated kidnapping, rape and aggravated assault. While Riley County voter turn-out was low for last week’s primary, Pottawatomie County voters turned out in fuller force. County Clerk and Election Officer Nancy McCarter tells KMAN Monday’s Canvass of the August fifth primary election confirmed that. 24 percent was the turn-out in Pottawatomie County for last week’s primary election. McCarter indicates that’s about what she expected, based on Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s predictions. Kobach had projected 22 percent and Pottawatomie County tends to do a bit better than he says, according to McCarter. A double wide mobile home at 212 Ninth Street in Ogden was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN firefighters were on the scene for most of the afternoon, with the fire reported at about 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, with the fire destroying the structure and contents, for an estimated loss of $100,000. The owner is listed as Doris Murphy of Great Bend, with the resident identified as Amber Colin. Colin was not home at the time, but a baby-sitter was, with four to five occupants.
