KMAN reported Tuesday that the Fort Riley man found dead at 1731 North Park Drive on Monday, had been identified.  The Junction City Police Department released additional details around 3:45 Wednesday afternoon. After conducting a preliminary investigation into the death of Shawn Thomas (26), and receiving the preliminary autopsy results, the death seemed to be a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound.  The police department also does not believe there was any foul play.

The local United Way has officially changed their name. The organization’s new name is Konza United Way.  This marks the second name change in the group’s 70 year history. The new name is designed to incorporate the regional influence and service area that includes-Clay, Marshall, Riley, Wabunsee, Pottawatomie and Washington counties. “Our new name reflects the regional nature of our local United Way and pays respect to our prairie heritage”, said Board Chair, Jeff Morris. (AP) Collin McHugh held light-hitting Kansas City at bay over seven innings, and Matt Dominquez drove in the only run the Houston Astros needed in a 3-0 victory over the Royals on Tuesday night. It is expected that 950 officers from over 95 agencies will carry the “Flame of Hope” throughout 30 counties in Kansas as they travel to the annual Special Olympics Summer Games held in Wichita. The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is a series of statewide runs which will travel approximately 1500 miles throughout the state. The Manhattan City Commission met for its first, 2015 Budget work session Tuesday. In the proposal, the total 2015 City Budget would increase  from roughly $130 million last year to $135 million this year (3%). With that, City Staff recommends a 2.65 Mill Levy increase, but the Commission wasn’t very fond of that number. “Too high,” said Commissioner, John Matta. “Yeah I’d say we still have a ways to go,” added Commissioner, Rich Jankovich.
