Every spring, Wamego hosts the annual tulip festival, and this year was the 27th year of the event.  The festival is held in Wamego City Park, and many home gardens throughout the town feature colorful tulips. Over 150 craft and artisan vendors are located throughout the park.  Some of the items being sold included-jewelry, purses, clothing, candles, soaps, toys, art, and home decor. The two day event also featured over a dozen food trucks and vendors.  Funnel cakes, barbeque, stir fry, and wood-fire pizzas were some of the foods available. Community and State leaders met on Friday on Fort Riley to get a glimpse of the past, present, and future of the U.S. Army installation.  Some of the changes coming in the future include a brigade being dismantled, and troop reductions.  According to post officials by 2016 between 1,200 and 1,700 soldiers will be transitioned out of the forces on post.  The outgoing brigade will be partially absorbed by the two remaining brigades on post as new combat elements. 1st Infantry Division commander Major General Paul Funk says with new technologies in such areas as force projection, and training will…

The Kansas Water Vision Team conducted a workshop Friday at the Kansas Farm Bureau office in Manhattan. The purpose of the meeting was to identify the major issues and priorities that will be used in developing the first draft of the 50-year Water Vision plan, which Governor Brownback called for during his Water Conference last October.
