Coming off a huge win Wednesday night at arch-rival Kansas the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team had a chance to pull off another road victory on Saturday but in the end they would come up short as the Wildcats fell at 15th-ranked Oklahoma State 67-62 Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater. The Manhattan Library Association’s annual book sale took place Friday-Sunday at the Manhattan Public Library. Different genres of books could be found throughout the second floor of the library. Hardcover books were priced at $1.50 each, while paperbacks were only 75 cents.  DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks were available for $2 each.  Children’s books were on sale for 75 cents each. The first night of the sale was only open to the Manhattan Library Association Members.  The other days were open to the public. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Shawnee County judge has sentenced a 40-year-old Topeka man to two consecutive life sentences for two murders more than a decade apart. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1i02cU7 ) Shawnee County District Court Judge David Debenham on Friday sentenced Monroe Eugene Lockhart III to two consecutive life sentences for the murder of Corey Brown in 2012 and Damon Anderson in 2000. Lockhart pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to premeditated first-degree murder in the Jan. 3, 2012, slaying of Brown, and the Valentine’s Day 2000 death of Anderson. Both victims were from Topeka. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) One-time income tax payments totaling more than $50 million helped boost Kansas revenue collections in February ahead of official estimates. The Kansas Department of Revenue says Friday that overall revenue collections were $97.6 million more than projected. Individual income taxes were $100.7 million more than anticipated, while corporate tax collections were up $4.8 million. Officials say Kansas collected $329 million in February, beating estimates for $231.4 million. Kansas has collected $3.62 billion in revenues, compared to the $3.5 billion projected for the fiscal year that began July 1. The gains were partially offset by declines from estimates…

The Riley County Police Department received a call shortly after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon from an individual reporting that they had discovered a body in Tuttle Cove on Tuttle Creek Lake. RCPD, along with the Riley County Emergency Management, Riley County EMS, Tuttle Creek Corps of Engineers and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office were on scene and retrieved the body from the water. A coroner was then summoned and confirmed that the body was deceased. Much of the lake is frozen, however the body was located in an area of thawed water that extended a short distance from the shore.…

The Manhattan high basketball team closed out the regular season on an emotional senior night inside the MHS gymnasium. The girls contest was a dandy of a match up with the Centennial League crown on the line. Both Seaman and MHS were at 12-0 in league play heading into Friday nights contest. Seaman was led in scoring by Tatyana Legette with 13 points but was held to just two points in the second half and that was key in Manhattan’s 47-38 victory over Seaman to capture an outright Centennial league title. A Gas leak resulted in the closure of portions of a couple of streets on the East side of Manhattan Friday evening. According to Batallion Chief Rex Worden with the Manhattan Fire Department the leak was discovered on North 3rd Street in front of the new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant which is still under construction. For precautionary reasons, fire officials blocked off the 900 block of North 3rd Street and the 300 block of Vattier Street. Crews from Kansas Gas Service arrived on the scene at around 8 p.m. and as of Friday evening were still working on the scene.…
