KSNW-TV reports the city’s Big Pool is filled with more than 2 million gallons of water and ready to accommodate swimmers hundreds of them, more than the populations of some Kansas towns. Monica Colborn, aquatics director for the Garden City Recreation Commission, says the pool draws anywhere from 500 to 1,500 swimmers a day. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) One person is dead and another is in custody following an early-morning shooting south of downtown Topeka. Police say the victim was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle following the shooting around 1:40 a.m. Sunday. The person was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m. A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree murder. No details about the victim were released. Police Lt. Jana Harden told The Topeka Capital-Journal that a car accident was associated with the shooting. Nobody was hurt in the collision.
The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a one vehichle, injury accident Friday evening. Brad Anderson (45) of Lindsborg was travelling southbound on K99 in his 2000 F350 Ford pickup truck when the passenger side wheels dropped off the west side of the roadway. Anderson over-corrected, came back on the roadway, crossed all lanes of traffic and left the east side of the roadway. His vehicle then slid down the embankment, overturned several times and went through a fence before coming to rest in a field.
