Federal officials say 18 current and former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies face array of criminal charges. The charges result from an ongoing FBI investigation into allegations of excessive force and other misconduct at the county’s jails.

Update 9:45 a.m. East Poyntz has been opened, and traffic can now travel on the road. Updated 8:25 a.m. Riley County Police and law enforcement personnel from surrounding areas responded shortly after 6:00 this morning to the Quality Inn and Suites at 150 East Poyntz Avenue for a disturbance call which indicated acts of violence. Shortly after arrival, RCPD officers managed to get the suspect in custody with no injuries to any personnel or bystanders. The Westbound lanes of East Poyntz Avenue have re-opened while the Eastbound lanes remain closed. Riley County Police are expected to issue a press release…
Well known Manhattan Civic Leader and Political Stalwart Charles Hostetler has died. The Manhattan Mercury reported in Monday evening’s edition that Hostetler passed away on Sunday at the age of 75 after a year-long battle with cancer. Hostetler had been well known throughout the community as well as in the insurance and banking industries and was also an influential figure in both Local and State politics. A long list of “end year project requests” were submitted by various department heads, to Information Technology/GIS Director, Robert Nall. The list was brought before the Riley County Commission during Monday’s county commission meeting. Commissioner, Robert Boyd and Commission Chair, Dave Lewis provided recommendations on projects that were necessary this year, and projects that could wait until next year. Some approved projects included-laptops, label makers, scanners and printers for the health department and a desktop for Emergency Management. Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett, safety Ty Zimmerman and defensive end Ryan Mueller all racked up first team all-big 12 honors from the Associated Press. Lockett was named a first team wide receiver and all-purpose player after catching 71 passes for 1,146 yards this season. Mueller, a former walk-on, tied the school record for sacks this season with 11.5. Zimmerman took home all big 12 honors for a fourth straight year. Linebacker Blake Slaughter, center B.J. A status hearing was held involving a fatal crash that occurred back in September. Daniel Nitchman (38) made his first appearance in court Monday afternoon in front of Judge Meryl Wilson. The merger of American Airlines and U-S Airways took effect Monday, and Manhattan Regional Airport Director Peter Van Kuren indicates the legal completion of the merger ends a period of uncertainty that was first caused by American’s bankruptcy, followed by the merger announcement that was overshadowed by a federal lawsuit.
