Riley County Commissioners recevied more 2024 budget requests Thursday. The County Clerk’s budget ask is over $13,000 higher than last year, attributed to printing and duplicating services for the mailing of the revenue neutral rate notices, which totaled over $18,000 last year. The state is reimbursing counties for that this year, but not in 2024. The Kansas Department of Education’s Sunflower Summer program kicks off Friday. Flint Hills Discovery Center Marketing Coordinator Deanna Likes said this program allows Kansas students to attend multiple attractions state-wide at no cost to them. Each child and up to two adult caretakers will be provided one-time, free admission to each participating location. Riley County Police are investigating after a body was found outside of the Apartment Towers Wednesday afternoon. According to a press release from RCPD, officers responded around 3 p.m. Wednesday to 300 N. 5th St. after the body of Rick Stradtner, 45, was found on the roof of the first floor. Stradtner lived on the fourth floor of the apartment building. RCPD believes no other party was involved. The investigation is ongoing.
