The Junction City Police Department wants to warn their local citizens of a recent rash of residential burglaries. The department released a press release around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, stating that reports have been taken from a few locations so far-including the 200 block of West Home Street and the 400 block of West 18th Street. Police have received reports of a possible suspect in the area. The suspect is said to be a black male, 5’8″-5’10”, around 200 pounds, with short black hair and wearing dark colored clothing. When plat and rezoning requests are made in Riley County, the requests are taken through an extensive process to ensure that the projected site will follow specific regulations.  Once the sites are approved by the County Planning and Development Department, the requests then go before the Riley County Commission.  Considering the fact that the zoning board has already approved the site and recommended it to the commission, the requests are often approved in a short time.  During Thursday’s commission meeting, this was not the case. KMAN news has just confirmed the victim in a fatal one vehicle accident on HIghway 24 just west of the Seth child intersection last month tested positive for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Harkrader tells KMAN Michael Ippert, 28, who died in the March 13th wreck, tested positive and Harkrader indicates that was a direct correlation to the accident. Authorities were on the scene for several hours following the accident in which Ippert drifted off the edge of the roadway while driving his ’95 Chevrolet Tahoe. Riley County police are looking for a driver of a 1997 Dodge Caravan that left the road and struck a tree in Manhattan. Police say at around 5:30 Thursday morning the van crossed the center lane near the 400 block of Poyntz Avenue, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck a tree in front of Barry’s Drug Store.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before police arrived at the location of the accident. The K-State men’s golf team posted their best finish at the Big 12 Championship since 2010 by coming in fifth on Wednesday afternoon at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson.  The Cats carded a team score of 51-over par 791 over the 54-hole tournament, which was cut back by Tuesday’s snow.  Texas claimed the meet, and finished 32 shots ahead of K-State. Jose Valverde returned to Detroit with a save and Victor Martinez drove in a pair of runs to help the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 Wednesday night. The Royals scored four runs in the third inning with five straight hits to begin the inning from Salvador Perez, Chris Getz, Alex Gordon, Alcides Escobar and Billy Butler to take a 4-1 lead.
