Standing in the Riley County Court House Plaza, 12 red silhouettes stood as 12 volunteers waited for their story to be read. This was the scene Friday at noon as the Domestic Violence Task Force held their annual event to recognize those victims of domestic violence and whom have lost their lives from it. An accident involving a pedestrian was reported in the 10,000 block of Lower McDowell Road Thursday evening. Geary County Sheriff’s deputies responded to that location at about 6:15 p.m.. The vehicle versus pedestrian accident is listed as an injury accident. Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf would not provide further details at this time, but indicates the accident did not involve a fatality. Names of those involved are not being provided. The case remains under investigation.
AMES, Iowa (AP) Case McCoy scored on a 1-yard plunge with 51 seconds left and Texas rallied to beat Iowa State 31-30 on Thursday night. Two plays earlier, Texas running back Jonathan Gray appeared to fumble after a scrum just short of the goal line with a recovery by Iowa State. An accident just west of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Blue River Hills Road at about 7:30 Friday morning involved a non-life threatening injury. That’s according to Riley County Police Public Information Officer Mat Droge. The accident involved a car and a motorcycle. No names or further details are available at this time.

Richard Meyers visited K-State Thursday to speak about military families and how they are affected by the transition from active duty to civilian life. “Budgets are declining and a lot of the transition assistance programs are in danger of not being as well-funded as they should be. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A small bag of cremated remains labeled “Grandma” that a customer left at a Wichita liquor store has been claimed. KAKE-TV reports Kathy Leonard retrieved the bag Thursday after hearing about efforts by Charlie Nguyen to find the owner. Leonard says the ashes are those of her mother, Helen Dapron, who died in Arizona in 2010. She says she gave her three children small portions of the remains in plastic bags. ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) The damage from last week’s fire at a south-central Kansas packing plant is estimated in the millions of dollars. Doug Mackay, director of human resources at Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, shared the estimate Thursday with members of the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce. The Arkansas City Traveler reports Creekstone is insured for such massive damage and is working with insurance adjusters on a more precise estimate. The fire broke out the afternoon of Sept. 25 in the plant’s fabrication area. The cause is still being determined, but investigators have traced it to a conveyor belt.…
