Kansas State announced Monday that Sophomore Forward Adrian Diaz has decided to transfer to another school. Reports indicate Diaz told coach Bruce Weber it was his desire to play the remainder of this College Basketball career closer to home. Diaz is from the Miami area. In his two years as a Wildcat, Diaz has averaged just under three points per game. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Diaz is the second player to leave the Big 12 Champions in the last week. KMAN news has just received word of the death of a 29 year old Manhattan man in a Sunday accident on highway 77, about 10 miles north of El Dorado. James Ponce died in the crash, which was discovered by a passer-by shortly before 4:30 Sunday morning. Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet tells KMAN Ponce’s vehicle was on its top, and apparently had rolled several times. Ponce, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Sheriff Herzet adds in addition to his deputies, EMS and fire crews responded and attempted CPR on Ponce but were unsuccessful. Ponce…
1. On Monday a traffic accident on Tuttle Creek Boulevard led to the hospitlization of four individuals. At approximately 5 pm monday evening a 2008 Nissan Titan driven by 33-year-old Claudia Martinez attempted to turn left into the southbound lane of Tuttle Creek Boulevard from Walters Drive. Martinez was struck by 70-year-old Stanley Hoerman (whore-man) who was headed northbound on Tuttle Creek Boulevard in his 2010 Toyota Camry. Due to the accident all occupants of the Martinez’s truck were taken to Mercy Regional Health Center for their injuries. Wamego High School teacher Mary Lonker, and West Elementary teacher Abby Ross were recognized as Wamego’s Teacher of the Year nominees. Wamego approved hiring an additional ESOL para. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Topeka man has pleaded guilty to 40 counts of rape, robbery and other charges stemming from a string of holdups in the city last year. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Arthur Lee Crain III, 27, will face at least 21 years in prison at his sentencing in May, on the same day he was to have gone on trial. He entered the pleas Monday in Shawnee County District Court. Crain was released from prison in January 2012 after serving time for armed robbery. SALINA, Kan. (AP) Police in Salina are looking for the thief who drove off with a trailer containing the belongings of a woman moving into an apartment. The Salina Journal reports the crime happened sometime Friday while the trailer was parked in the lot outside an apartment building. Police say the thief hooked the trailer up to a vehicle and towed it away. Items in the trailer included a love seat, bed, mattress and other household goods. The loss is estimated at $3,000.
KINGMAN, Kan. (AP) About 120,000 acres of Kansas land are in conservation easements and the director of the Nature Conservancy of Kansas says the number is growing. The easements allow landowners to restrict the use of their land forever, generally to keep the property in its natural state. Rob Manes, director of the Nature Conservancy of Kansas, says his group’s goal for easement is protecting critical habitats, like remnants of the tallgrass prairie.
