Manhattan City Commissioners will consider a pair of resolutions tonight including one involving the 2024 budget. City staff are proposing an intent to levy a property tax exceeding the revenue neutral rate and setting a public hearing related to that. The current neutral rate is 47.613 and commissioners will decide whether to increase the levy to 50.470 mills. Feedback provided at the June 13 commission work session was provided to not capture the full 9.5% valuation growth assessed by Riley and Pottawatomie counties, but rather a 6% growth, which would incur a decrease from the 2023 budget of 1.684 mills.…

(AP) — Kansas must stop allowing transgender people to change the sex listed on their driver’s licenses, a state-court judge ordered Monday as part of a lawsuit filed by the state’s Republican attorney general. District Judge Teresa Watson’s order will remain in effect for up to two weeks, although she can extend it. But it’s significant because transgender people have been able to change their driver’s licenses in Kansas for at least four years, and almost 400 people had done it by the end of June. A 25-year-old Manhattan man was arrested Saturday at the Sandstone Apartments, in north Manhattan. According to Sunday’s RCPD arrest report, Jacob Robb was charged with single counts of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and criminal restraint. The City of Manhattan says a pair of construction projects are beginning today, which will create some traffic adjustments in town. Phase two of a project to remove and replace the intersection of College Heights Road and Denison Ave. will see reconstruction of the west half of the intersection.
