NCAA president Mark Emmert announced on Wednesday that K-State president Kirk Schulz has been named to the NCAA Executive Committee. Schulz joins the highest governance body in the NCAA that oversees association-wide issues. The committee is charged with ensuring that each division operates consistently with the basic purposes, fundamental policies and general principles of the NCAA. Schulz will continue to serve his four-year term on the Division I NCAA Board of Directors, which is made up of presidents or chancellors from institutions in each of the association’s 11 football conferences. LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) The Chicago Bears have hired former K-State and Purdue defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar as their linebackers coach. Tibesar was a member of Ron Prince’s staff all three years at K-State. He was the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 after running the special teams for a year. K-State ranked 117th out of 119 Division I teams in total defense during the 2008 season. Purdue’s defense allowed just under 416 yards per game last season and ranked 11th in the Big Ten. A 9-0 run in the final two minutes allowed Washburn Rural to skate past the Manhattan High boys 45-40 on Tuesday night in Topeka. The Junior Blues built a 23-12 lead in the second quarter, but the Tribe pulled within seven at the half, and outscored Rural 14-4 in the third. MHS could never pull away though, and held a 37-35 edge with 2:15 to play. Riley County Police are reporting an accident on Northbound Tuttle Creek Rd and McCall Road. The road is currently impassible and drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route. KMAN will provide more information as it becomes available. There are also several reports of cars sliding off of the road on K-18, so drivers are encouraged to be especially careful as they travel.
