Manhattan’s Sunset Zoo welcomed a new addition this week – a baby chimpanzee. Born Tuesday morning at the AZA-accredited institution, the healthy baby boy is mother Hazina’s second offspring at Sunset Zoo. Mom and baby can be seen by the public beginning this Saturday, March 2 from Noon to 5pm. Jason Graham, 35, of Manhattan, was arrested in the 700 block of Diebler, Thursday on a number of different charges. Mark Mangino is back in coaching, just over three years after being fired at Kansas, and will step into a familiar place with an old friend. Mangino, a Youngstown State alum and former assistant, has been hired as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the Penguins, where he will work for former K-State offensive lineman Eric Wolford. Mangino coached Wolford as a player with the Wildcats from 1991-93, and they were on Coach Snyder’s staff together in 1995 when Wolford was a graduate assistant. (AP) Kansas coach Bill Self says the Iowa State student government sent him a letter apologizing for a pair of incidents that occurred during the Jayhawks’ overtime victory over the Cyclones on Monday night. The sixth-ranked Jayhawks rallied in the closing minutes to force overtime before rolling to a 108-96 victory that left the crowd at Hilton Coliseum stunned. PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) James Shields pitched a hitless inning in his Kansas City debut, and the Royals remained unbeaten this spring with a 5-4 win Thursday over the San Diego Padres. Shields was acquired in a big trade with Tampa Bay during the offseason. The new ace worked the first inning, then went to the bullpen to reach his pitch count. The Royals improved to 6-0-1.
