Close to 400 Manhattan High School students marched into Bramlage Coliseum Sunday afternoon, before being presented with diplomas. Graduating senior Christopher Davis was one of the speakers and admitted to classmates it had been a year of transition, with ongoing construction at the high school. But Davis added with all the gripes and complaints, the class needed to count its blessings…referring to various teachers, school staff, administrators, and family members. Graduating senior Linda Pei told her classmates they’d finally made it, saying they had survived derivatives, Shakespearean monologues, and cell cycles. The Kansas Highway patrol is investigating a fatal one vehicle accident in Wabaunsee county, that took the life of a 69-year-old man Sunday, who served in the state legislature. Robert Bethell of Alden died in the crash, reported about 7:30 Sunday evening just west of Snokomo Road on I-70. Behell was driving a 2004 Lincoln westbound when the vehicle left the roadway, struck several trees, overturned, and came to rest on its roof. Bethel represented the 113th district, which includes Rice, Reno, and Butler counties.

Former K-State legend Bob Boozer has died. He went on to become an NBA star and was a 1960 Olympic gold medalist. He was 75. Ella Boozer says her husband died Saturday of a brain aneurysm after becoming ill Friday night. Boozer was a two-time first team All-American at K-State in 1958-59. He averaged 21.9 points and 10.7 rebounds per game in his career. Boozer put up 25.6 points a night as a senior in 1959, and led the Wildcats to a 14-0 Big 8 record and a #1 ranking at the end of the regular season. His jersey hangs…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Royals pitchers Danny Duffy and Blake Wood are scheduled to have Tommy John surgery within the next two weeks after being evaluated Friday by Dr. Lewis Yocum. The 23-year-old Duffy had been the Royals’ best starter, going 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA. The left-hander was pulled from his start against the White Sox last Sunday after just 13 pitches, though, and the torn ulnar collateral ligament was announced Monday. The Big 12 and the Southeastern conferences have announced a deal that will pit their football regular-season champions against each other in a bowl game for five years beginning in 2014. The agreement between two of the most successful BCS conferences was announced Friday. If one or both of the league champions are selected to play in what is expected to be a four-team national championship playoff, another team would be selected for the Big 12-SEC matchup. Accordng to police reports on May 18, 2012 at approximately 0720 hours the Riley County Police Department received a 911 call at a Manhattan residence about a deceased male. The caller believed the male, a 24 year old Fort Riley Soldier, was already deceased at the time of the 911 call and this was confirmed by EMS and the Coroner. The soldier’s name and address is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.
