MANHATTAN, Kan. – A career game from Jordan Henriquez was not enough for Kansas State, as the Wildcats dropped a close game to Iowa State, 65-61. Henriquez finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Those high marks helped create the first double- double of his career. At least one area wrestler will be in the ring on Saturday hoping to become a State Champion. Kyle Wilson of Wamego advanced to the State finals after defeating Michael Tubbs of Colby in Friday’s semifinals at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. Wilson will wrestle for the title against Andrew Morgan of Baldwin High School in the 132 lb. weight class in Class 4A. Meanwhile, the Class 3-2-1A Tourney wrapped up in Hays with Rock Creek finishing 15th with 40.5 points and Riley County finishing 51st with two points. The Manhattan High School Girls Basketball team completed a perfect record in Centennial League play with a 42-32 victory at Topeka High on Friday night in the regular season finale. Manhattan fell behind the Trojans 20-8 after the first quarter before outscoring Topeka High 34-12 the rest of the way. The 87th Annual Meeting and Banquet of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce was held on Friday Night at the Manhattan Conference Center, and featured a look back at the progress of the community over the past year. Presentations highlighted development in the area such as the spacious Manhattan Conference Center, and improvements to build infrastructure such as the addition of more flights to the local airport. C. Clyde Jones was named Volunteer of the Year, and Bruce Snead received the Lud Fiser Citizen of the Year. Both men received standing ovations from those gathered at the ceremony.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Kansas nurse who admitted diluting morphine solutions at a Salina nursing home has been sentenced to three years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Richard Rogers on Friday gave Melanie Morrison the sentence recommended by prosecutors. Morrison pleaded guilty earlier to consumer product tampering and adulterating a drug at the Holiday Resort Nursing Facility in Salina. Morrison admitted putting sodium chloride into solutions of morphine sulfate, reducing the painkiller’s quality and strength. Sodium chloride is dangerous to some patients, particularly those with congestive heart failure or severe renal insufficiency. As part of the plea deal, she…
