The Riley County-Manhattan Health Department will drop it’s association with the city of Manhattan and become a county agency as of January 1, 2012. It was a hot day for a fire, with nine Riley county firefighters responding to a fire at an abandoned mobile home on Harwood Drive near Zeandale road this (Wednesday) afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Doug Messer indicates the property involved belongs to Dwight Johnson, who lives at 1170 Zeandale Road… Messer adds what makes the fire interesting is it’s the second fire on Johnson’s property in less than a week. A 39-year old woman, Lakeysha Beard, talked for more than half a day while on an Amtrak train going from Oakland, California, to Salem, Oregon. The loud cellphone conversation lasted sixteen hours last Monday, after which police stopped the train for twenty minutes to arrest the woman. According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Amtrak has no policy forbidding passengers from talking on the phone on a moving train. An imam of a mosque in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, was beaten up by a local man for refusing to chase away an evil spirit from his body, the Emirate Al Youm newspaper said. “The man claimed that he was possessed by a jinn and wanted the imam to exorcise him by reading verses of Quran. Hees was talking to the university students about his time at the University of Warwick in England. A morbidly obese Ohio man died Wednesday after being found unconscious in his home several days earlier. The man had been sitting in a chair for two years and was physically fused to it when he was discovered by two roommates, one of which was his girlfriend. Authorities who arrived at the house in Bellaire reported seeing the man sitting amidst his own urine and feces, which were infested with maggots. A 13-year-old Norwegian boy avoided being attacked by wolves by playing a heavy metal song on his mobile phone, RIAN reports. The incident took place in the central Norwegian municipality of Rakkestad. Four wolves, who appeared before the boy when he was returning home from school, were scared away by the noise coming from the boy’s mobile phone, the Russian website said. An Egyptian man in his early twenties has named his newborn daughter ‘Facebook’ following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution which was almost solely organized on the social-networking site Facebook.
