Traffic in Manhattan can be hectic, and some spots in town can be big trouble. The Manhattan City Commission will take a look at a couple of main streets in Manhattan at its work session Tuesday night. City Manager Ron Fehr says one spot around 11th and Bluemont Avenue will be discussed. Part of the issue is whether to have a westbound turning lane, which would involve a mini-frontage road, or a median. The Manhattan Breakfast Optimist Club Tree Lot is open for business at the Manhattan Optimist park at 317 Plymate lane.  The tree lot boasts a large variety of Christmas trees from firs to pine, and in all shapes and sizes. Optimist Park co-chair Bruce Bidwell explains that the profits from the tree lot will go towards over 20 community youth projects. Haiti might not be the ideal tourist destination for winter travelers, but students from Manhattan Christian College won’t be going there for the sights this winter break. Six students along with MCC director of student development Eric Sanford will be spending part of their winter break in Port Au Prince, Haiti, with children who lost their parents in the tragic earthquake that struck the nation almost two years ago. There is still a position on the Pawnee Mental Health governing board that still needs to be filled. “Our license with the state of Kansas requires that we have two special board positions,” Executive director Robbin Cole said. “One is for an adult who has a severe and persistent mental illness. A residential burglary led to thousands of dollars in damages and losses for a Manhattan man. On Wednesday, 37-year old Jayson Werner told Riley County police that the theft occurred overnight between November 20 and the 21 at his home located in the 800 block of Greenfield Cir. After forcibly gaining entry into the house, the suspect caused over $2,000 dollars-worth of damage to Werner’s 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle, while also making off with $2,220 in cash, a Kimber 1911 45-caliber pistol, and bullets.
