MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Kansas State women’s tennis started its 2011 fall schedule on Friday at the 36th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Wildcats secured a pair of doubles victories over Western Michigan in the morning session, while South Carolina got the better of K-State’s singles’ lineup. In doubles action on Friday morning against Western Michigan, K-State registered two wins in three doubles matches. The pair of sophomore Petra Niedermayerova and junior Ana Gomez Aleman rolled to an 8-1 win over Kathleen Hawkins and Jill Pastunink. MORAGA, Calif. – The Kansas State Wildcats made quick work of the Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday night at the Saint Mary’s Tournament getting the sweep. K-State rolled from the start for the win 25-14, 25-20, 25-16 spreading the offense around and utilizing its size on the block late to get the win. Sophomore Kaitlynn Pelger again led the team in kills with 11, but it was a complete team effort in the win with strong showings from juniors Kathleen Ludwig, Alex Muff and Caitlyn Donahuealong with sophomores Dakota Kaufman and Lilla Porubek. Interview with Cathy Dawes! The United States Post Office announced the possibility of massive cuts Thursday, with 250 processing facilities slated for possible consolidation or closure. Newly named Manhattan Postmaster C.J. Lincoln indicates that means a close to 50 percent reduction in mail processing equipment, an adjustment of the workforce size by as much as 35,000. TULSA, Okla. – The Kansas State women’s golf team recorded the fifth-best score of the final round on Wednesday as the Wildcats moved up three spots on the leaderboard to finish seventh at the Dale McNamara Invitational held at the par 72, 6,450-yard Patriot Golf Course. The Wildcats carded a 13-over par 301 to finish with a three-day total of 46-over par 910. K-State bettered its 10th place finish in the same event last season. A Manhattan man has been after attempting to sexually exploit a child 24-year old Jeffery Jepsen of 2817 Johnson Valley Dr. attempted to make an explicit video of a 15-year old girl. The incident is believed to have occurred in the northeast portion of Manhattan between September 1 of last year and September 15 of this year. Riley county police arrested Jepsen early Thursday morning. Jepsen is expected to face two felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child. RCPD has set Jepsen’s bond at $20,000.

(AP)   Melky Cabrera had four hits, including a home run, and Billy Butler hit a three-run homer to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. The City of Manhattan still has a relatively low unemployment rate, with numbers just released for August showing 4.8 percent, actually down a tenth from last year at the same time. the Manhattan metropolitan area, which includes Riley, Pottawatomie and Geary counties, has a 5.9 percent rate.. the same as last year. AUSTIN, Texas (AP)   A longtime assistant to Texas football coach Mack Brown was fired earlier this year for sexual harassment, according to documents obtained by ESPN. The “Outside the Lines” program obtained documents from the university’s investigation of Cleve Bryant A Texas football department employee who graduated from the school a few years ago filed a sexual harassment complaint about a year ago. A university investigator then determined that Bryant made repeated unwanted sexual advances toward the young woman Bryant was the Longhorns’ associate athletics director for football operations. University of Oklahoma officials are scheduled to discuss its Big 12 affiliation on Monday. The school’s board of regents has posted the agenda for Monday’s meeting. It’s a single paragraph that says the board will consider switching conference affiliation, and any legal ramifications of such a move. The agenda says the regents may discuss the topic behind closed doors and “take any appropriate action.” University president David Boren said earlier this month that Oklahoma had been in contact with multiple conferences and expected a decision within a three-week timeframe that would run out next week. For the second time in a week, a Fort Riley soldier has been found dead. This time the soldier was found in his house on Fort Riley by his Unit Monday evening. Post officials are announcing  the soldier has been identified as Staff Sgt. Richard Denham, 42, who was assigned 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade combat team, 1st Infantry Division. The cause of the death is under invevstigation.
