OGDEN, Kan. – The Riley County Commission made its first stop in a series of four trips outside of Manhattan for their weekly Thursday meetings. Kansas State Police recovered over $2,000 in stolen property after a search warrant was served in the student housing area on campus. 22-year-old Jared A. Hardinger was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana and computer crime. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time. MANHATTAN, Kan. – Two Manhattan High School wrestlers signed national letters of intent to Colby Community College on Thursday at the Robinson Education Center. Seniors Brian Wood and Percy “Tre” Davis were joined by family, friends, and teachers as they made their commitments to continue their wrestling careers. A Salina man was sentenced to nearly three years in prison in connection with a three county chase last October involving a semi he was driving. Robert Smith, 55,  was remanded in Pottawatomie County Court to serve 32 months. In addition, when Smith is eligible for release he will be on post-release supervision for two years. Smith entered a no contest plea last month to attempted aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and aggravated battery. FORT RILEY, Kan. – Soldiers from 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, received Quilts of Valor from the Kansas chapter of the volunteer group Wednesday, April 11. Every Soldier who deployed to Afghanistan with 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry received a handmade quilt from the volunteer group. The “Pale Riders” participated in Operation Enduring Freedom 11-12 in support of both Combined Task Force Strike and Combined Task Force Spartan, partnered with the 2nd Kandak, 3rd Brigade, 205th Corps from the Afghan National Army.

Arrests What started as an aggravated assault resulted in nine counts of offenses for a Manhattan man. 19 year old, Denzel Leonard, failed to register as a violent offender after getting charged with one count of aggrivated assault in Riley County. After failing to register, Leonard received eight other charges:  three counts of incorrect information, three counts of failing to register different information, and one count of failing to inform of address change. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Federal prosecutors have charged 14 people in an alleged cocaine smuggling ring in Wichita. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a release Thursday that the 63-count indictment alleges that the drug trafficking organization was active in Wichita from October 2010 until this month. The indictment also accuses 30-year-old Juvenal Fernandez Jr., of Wichita, of conspiring with his father, 56-year-old Juvenal G. Fernandez, also of Wichita, to launder about $174,000 in drug proceeds by buying real estate.
