DALLAS (AP)   Cezar Guerrero scored seven of his 14 points at the start of the second overtime and Oklahoma State defeated SMU 68-58 Wednesday night.  The Cowboys (7-5) closed the game with a 16-0 run, with the final six points in the first overtime before outscoring SMU 10-0 in the second extra period.  SMU (7-5) had matched its biggest lead of the game when Robert Nyakundi made three free throws for a 58-52 advantage with 1:17 left in the first overtime.  Keiton Page then made two 3-pointers in a span of 33 seconds, with a miss by Nyakundi between…

On Tuesday, Travis Kemph, a Newton man, was critically injured when the cement truck he was driving rolled while making the turn to get on westboung I-70 from K-18.  Kemph was transported by lifeflight to Stormont Vail in Topeka. Kemph’s family has started a trust account at Capitol Federal Savings in Topeka to help pay for some of the medical expenses. David Miller, Kemph’s cousin-in-law, has told KMAN that Kemph is still in a coma, though there are postitive signs of brain activity.   They are awaiting a neurosurgeon to examine Kemph. Close but no cigar for K-Staters when the NFL announced its Pro Bowl rosters on Tuesday night.  Following a breakthrough in the Super Bowl, Packers wideout Jordy Nelson ranks second in the NFC in receiving touchdowns with 12, and is eighth in the league with 1, 101 receiving yards.  Nelson will be an alternate for the Pro Bowl for the NFC.  The starting receivers are Calvin Johnson of Detroit and Larry Fitzgerald of Arizona, while Steve Smith of Carolina and Greg Jennings of Green Bay are reserves. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP)   Jordan Tolbert scored 27 points, all from the paint and free-throw line, to lead Texas Tech past Cal State Bakersfield 74-58 on Tuesday night.  Tolbert, a freshman, has scored at least 20 points in his last four games, and this one matched his highest point total of the season. With Texas Tech leading 55-50, Cal State Bakersfield’s Donald Johnson was called for a technical foul after he appeared to taunt after a breakaway dunk. On Tuesday afternoon in the Riley County Magistrate court of Judge William Malcolm, 41-year-old Domingo Soto’s case saw an increase in the list of charges being filed by the state. Soto appeared via video camera from Riley County jail as Riley County assistant prosecutor Barry Disney amended several more charges to Soto’s case. Soto was originally charged with conspiracy to commit the 1st degree murder of 31 year old Steve Freel. An accident in Geary county on Tuesday sent Travis Kemph, a 29-year-old Newton resident, to the hospital. Kemph was driving a Midwest Concrete materials cement truck, when he lost control making a right hand turn to get on the westbound I-70. According to Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Harkrader, the individual was extricated by Geary and Junction City fire officials, and was first taken to Geary Community hospital, then transported by life flight to Stormont Vail in Topeka. With 2011 coming to a close, it leaves Manhattan with many things to reflect upon and much more to look forward to.
