The case of a Manhattan man accused of second degree murder had a motion’s hearing Thursday afternoon. Justin Taylor, 24,  is accused of the second degree murder of Kevin Lynn Cockrum.  Taylor was present at the Riley county courtroom as prosecution and defense attorneys went over several motions concerning his upcoming murder trial set to begin on January 31st. The bulk of the arguments centered around suppression of statements obtained from a Riley county police interview with Taylor on August 14th. A Wamego man was sentenced to about 21 years with the state department of corrections for a variety of sexual offenses.  Jordan Sweet, 20, was sentenced to 253 months during an appearance in Pottawatomie county district court Thursday. Sweet entered no contest pleas in early October to aggravated criminal sodomy and two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior. There were multiple victims in the case, known to Sweet. The cases reportedly occurred in April. Amy Griffin, 36,  of St. Mary’s entered a plea of no contest to distribution of methamphetamine and aggravated child endangerment. A law enforcement pursuit in Geary county Thursday evening led to the injury of a Junction City man.  Christopher Morgan, 35, was injured when the ’93 Audi passenger car he was driving was pursued by Geary County sheriff’s officers while southbound on highway 77 just before eight p.m. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Morgan’s vehicle made contact with stop sticks, which caused him to lose control. The vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a large tree. At the Manhattan – Ogden school board meeting, many topics were brought to the table. First was talk concerning the current redistricting map.  Dr Robert Seymour, Associate Superintendent, gave yet another update as to where the redistricting committee is looking.  He says they will continue next year at their January 5th meeting and has hopes to bring a plan to the board at their January 18, 2012 meeting. With this being the last meeting of 2011, the Wamego City Commission tied up loose ends. City Manager Merl Page asked the Governing Body to approve an amendment to a 2008 analysis of needed upgrades to the sanitary sewer system in the area of 2nd and Military Trail Road. The City re-evaluated the original Schwab-Eaton design and determined it needed modification due to continued growth in the area, which would cost an additional 2-thousand dollars. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   A man on parole for burglary has been charged with burglarizing the Kansas City apartment of Chiefs running back Dexter McCluster, making off with thousands of dollars’ worth of electronics, watches and other property. The Jackson County prosecutor’s office charged 31-year-old Daniel LaBlance on Tuesday with one count of second-degree burglary. Police say McCluster and his girlfriend returned to the apartment in the city’s Westport section the afternoon of Nov. 13 and found the door kicked open and the rooms ransacked.
