FORT RILEY, Kan. – Fort Riley officials have released an update involving a soldier found dead at approximately 5:30 Monday morning in his barracks room at the Warrior Transition Battalion. 21-year-old Specialist Nathan Conley, an M1 armor crewman, was assigned to the WTB in February. He deployed to Iraq from November 2010 to this past February in support of Operation New Dawn. Conley’s death is under investigation, and officials have not yet released information on the cause of death . On Monday, Riley County officials shared their post-Stampede thoughts with the community. Tuesday KMAN news spoke with Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat about his overall thoughts from the weekend .Riat says multiple security and emergency officials were on hand to help throughout the Stampede area. 29 people were taken to the Pottawatomie county jail. There were 80 incidents of minor in possession, 10 transporting open containers, and seven reports of possession of an illegal drug. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran will be visiting Riley and Pottawatomie Counties over the Fourth of July weekend as part of his statewide Listening Tour. Senator Moran is traveling across the state of Kansas to talk with area residents about their hopes and concerns. He will be stopping in Manhattan on July 2nd at the Historic Union Pacific Depot from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. His next stop will be in Wamego on the Fourth of July at the 2011 Wamego Independence Day Parade. Area residents are encouraged to attend both events.
The withdrawal of the City of Manhattan from the Riley County Manhattan Health Board was a major item of discussion at last night’s special City Commission meeting. Several speakers involved with both the County and the Health Board came forward to provide their thoughts on the matter. Kynard leapt seven feet, five and three quarter inches Sunday at the USA track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.
