Four Manhattan City Manager finalists have recently been identified. The search committee for a new City Manager has narrowed down the candidates to four finalists for the position, and they are all being invited to visit Manhattan later this month. The City will issue a news release once visit information has been finalized, including candidates’ names and plans for an upcoming opportunity for the public to interact with all of the candidates.

Officers filed a report of domestic assault, criminal destruction of property, and deprivation of property on July 6, 2024, at approximately 1:50 AM in Manhattan. Officers reported the victim was deprived of a 2013 Buick Enclave valued at approximately $5,000. Due to the nature of this crime, no other information will be released at this time. Riley County Republicans will be hosting several upcoming events for residents to meet the primary candidates, including this Tuesday at Pottorf hall in Manhatttan. Confirmed attendees include Eli Kormanik, Kenny Titus, Brad Starnes, Megan Steele, Kaleb James, Angel Roeser and Kristin Little from Senator Moran’s office. Kansas State Police responded to a crash in Pottawatomie County shortly before 5 p.m. on Independence Day. A 1999 Cessna single fixed-wing aircraft was traveling northbound on Runway 36 at Wamego Airport, when a miscommunication occurred. During an attempt to perform a short-field takeoff, the 22-year-old student pilot misheard his 65-year-old instructor, causing the plane to continue on the ground. Despite applying brakes, the aircraft continued its momentum, going beyond the runway into the grass. The plane eventually came to rest in a corn field. Officers filed a report of an injury accident in the 200 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. on July 3, 2024, at approximately 12:06 PM. Officers listed a 30-year-old male as the victim when it was reported he was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot. The victim was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka by EMS for non life-threatening injuries. Christopher Williams, 42, of Ogden, was arrested on July 3, 2024, at approximately 10:08 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s are investigating a number of vehicle burglaries across the area. Reports came in on Tuesday of this week that the Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of vehicular burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours in the neighborhoods of Green Valley Drive in the rural parts of the county.
